Question # 768
Hi Curtis, I recently upgraded form a gy401 9253 to a 601 and have noticed a tremendous increase in current drain. I run a pack of sanyo 2400 nicd and they last maybe for three flight!
Do you think this is normal?
my setup is:
3x9252
2x robbe FS250 digital (I run an Mc carb that requires 2 servos)
GV1
Gy 601
thank you very much for your time and help

Answer
Honestly I have limited experience with the Futaba equipment as I fly JR. I have tested both gyros and have helped several people with their gyros. I did not notice a significant difference in current drain. In general, I would not expect a big difference in current drain between the two gyro systems unless the servo is working harder. This might happen if the limits, travels or gain are set incorrectly causing the servo to oscillate in flight.
I do not know the condition of your batteries, but it would not sound that strange to me if you only got 4 or 5 flights out of a 2400 mah pack (3 sounds a little low). A modern radio system can drain a battery pretty quick, especailly if you are running an extra servo. Of course this will vary a lot depending on your flying style.
